Double-sided Puzzle Framing

We are proud to frame one of the "World's Most Difficult Jigsaw Puzzle". It is a double-sided puzzle, and the picture on the back is a 90-degree rotated version of the front!

Of cause, the frame must be able to display both sides of the puzzle. So, we sandwiched it in between two acrylic sheets and make it stand on the table.

Frame Your Canvas Art

Do you normally frame your canvas arts? Or you prefer to hang it without any frame surrounding?

There are several ways to frame your canvas.
The simplest way is just directly frame it with frame wood.

Or you may canvas floater to frame your canvas. It is just a boarder around the artwork, provides the minimal frame design.

If you have a little bit more budget, you can have cotton liner surrounding the canvas prior to the frame. Liners are to canvases, same as what a mat is to a paper print. Both serve as border that provides a breathing space and guide into the artwork itself.

No glass or acrylic needed for this type of framing as we already have a protective layer varnished on the canvas surface.

See, does it give you a different feeling after putting on the frame?  =)

Frame a Shark Jaw

Another special item added in our framing request -- A Shark Jaw!
This round, we used red velvet as background, as red is the favourite colour among Chinese, means 'prosperity'. Then, an acrylic square box is used to 'frame' the jaw, so that we can have a full view of the jaw, both from front and side.

Mini box frames for company products

We received an order recently from a company to frame their products in mini box frames. They sent us a few boxes of colourful correction tapes, in different shapes and sizes, for us to arrange them accordingly into box frames.

After working for days and nights, here is the result ~

These small box frames looks nice and presentable, aren't they?

Daniel's Answer to the King, by Briton Riviere

We framed a giclee print of "Daniel's Answer to the King", by Briton Riviere (1840-1920) last month. Instead of putting on clear glass which is reflective, we varnish the artwork as a layer of protection. An 'antique'  frame wood with linen liner is used to frame the print, provide a sense of history to the artwork.

"My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king." (Daniel 6:22, NIV)

** Story about Daniel in the den of lions is written in the Scripture, Book of Daniel Chapter 6.
** Daniel's Answer to the King. Painted in 1890, it is now in the Manchester City Art Gallery.

Indian Embroidery Stitch

Recently we framed an huge piece of Indian embroidery stitch for a customer.
It was a direct framing, without putting a glass on top, to let people touch the texture of the stitch.

The final frame size is so huge that our customer had to hire a mini lorry to bring it home!  =D

Penang Pre-War Flower Tile

We framed a very beautiful antic pre-war flower tile last week.

We did not use glass to cover the frame, so that one can touch and feel the texture of this very old tile. This is a marvellous artwork and our customer likes the outcome so much!

Descent from the Cross - Peter Paul Rubens

This has been a special day as our workshop framed a replica art print by Peter Paul Rubens, The Descent from the Cross right on 6 April, Good Friday of 2012.  The original oil painting is the central panel of a triptych painting inside Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp, Belgium by Rubens in 1612-1614.  During Napoleon's reign this painting and The Raising the Cross were removed and taken to Paris. They were returned to the Cathedral in the late 1800s.

Descent from the Cross- Peter Paul Rubens

Descent from the Cross is the scene from the Gospels' accounts of Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus taking Christ down from the cross after his crucifixion (John 19:38-42).  Theophile Silvestre wrote, in his "On Rubens' Descent from the Cross - 1868":

“The principal subject is composed of nine figures: at the top of two ladders,
workers are lowering the body of Christ with the aid of a shroud which one of them holds in his teeth, the other in the left hand.
Bracing themselves firmly against the arms of the cross,
each bends forward to guide the Christ with the hand that is left free while St. John,
with one foot on the ladder and his back arched, supports him most energetically.
One of Savior’s feet comes to rest on the beautiful shoulder of the Magdalene,
grazing her golden hair.
Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, placed midway on ladders so as to face each other,

form, together with the two workmen in the upper part of the picture, a square of vigorous but plebeian figures.
The Virgin, standing at the foot of the sacrificial tree, extends her arms towards her Son;
Salome (properly, Mary Cleophas), kneeling, gathers up her robe.
On the ground are seen the superscription and a copper basin where the crown of thorns and the nails of the Crucifixion lie in the congealed blood.
The crowd, always elated by the spectacle of torture, has departed from Golgotha as daylight fades.
After the sacrifice of Calvary, as it is called in Scripture, the sad, dark sky is crossed by a light that illumines the shoulders of the workmen, whose bold posture recalls the composition by Daniele da Volterra".

Not all frames are meant to be in the same shape

A customer wanted to frame flags in triangular frame shape.
This is a new experience for us working out the trigonometric calculation to get the frames done.

Decorative Vase Framing

Framing does not always end up with flat surface or a box. It can turn up to be a decorative display in our daily life.

We mounted a 'half-vase' on clear glass, with frame and mat board, making it a beautiful artwork to display. We can have it either as an interior decoration with fresh flowers, or hang it on the garden wall. Transparent glass make the artwork blends perfectly with the wall color.
